Tupac is the artist that just won’t die, despite the fact that he actually died back in 1996. When he’s not releasing albums posthumously (which he has done an astounding eight times, though not since 2006), he is performing on stage.
That’s correct, Tupac Shakur appeared on stage as a surprise guest alongside fellow west coast rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. The whole thing went down at the Coachella 2012 music festival in Indio, California last night. Tupac “performed” two songs, including “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted.”
The stunt was accomplished via hologram. Though it would be unfair to the living rappers who performed admirably this weekend to say that Tupac’s cameo stole the show, it’s certainly fair to say that it is getting all the buzz today.
Hologram Tupac’s performance was surprisingly real. Though the lighting was a bit off (hologram technology clearly has some room for improvement), it did kind of seem like Tupac was really on stage performing next to Snoop. When he was done performing, a light shined on him and he disappeared into the night sky.

Coachella happens for a second time next weekend and Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre are scheduled to perform once again. What surprises will they have in store? Maybe a hologram Nate Dogg? One can only hope.
