Argentina.
A mother of four gives birth to a fifth. Five medical professionals came to the same conclusion: The child was stillborn. That’s a term we don’t hear as often these days. The child, a baby girl, was removed from the hospital, taken to a local morgue and the parents were offered a Death Certificate.
The child’s mother, Analia Bouguet, and father, Fabian Veron, wanted to see their daughter and take a picture of her before she would be prepped for burial. The couple went to the morgue.
Once they arrived, they opened the containment drawer, where the child was waiting in a coffin. They pried the lid open, and when Analia removed a covering from the child’s face, the premature infant let out a cry. This was more than 12 hours after the hospital staff announced that the child was dead.
New plan.
The couple are still waiting on the Birth Certificate, while their daughter, Luz Milagros (which translates to miracle light) is in a neo-natal care unit, and said to be improving, though she remains in critical condition. The parents, understandably, are peeved. Bouguet is said to be pursuing a medical malpractice suit…and I really hope she reconsiders. Sure. Money is dandy, but this is so much bigger than that, and quite honestly, how could she disprove what five medical professionals concluded? She’s choosing to go with “miracle,” which would kind of leave malpractice out of it, right? To offer scope, the child didn’t even weight 2 pounds.
Digressing.
The five specialists who are in question have been suspended, pending an investigation. The hospital offered the following statement:
The baby was attended to by obstetricians, gynecologists and a neonatologist. They all reached the same conclusion, that this girl was stillborn.
