The aesthetic of golf has changed a lot in recent years. The game that was once the domain of stuffy, smartly-dressed old men who obsess over the fine details of their swings has been infiltrated by a collection of young men who embody a sort of X-Games attitude. Bubba Watson, the 2012 Master champion, is now the poster boy of that movement.
Watson has described himself as a big kid. He takes a unique approach to the game of golf, as the commentators repeatedly mentioned during yesterday’s broadcast. He has no swing coach and has never attempted to break down his swing by watching slo-mo video footage. He’s a proud southerner with long, shaggy hair who is just as comfortable in a pair of overalls as he is in his golf attire. Heck, he owns the General Lee from Dukes of Hazzard. How awesome is that?
Bubba also has a great sense of humor and there’s nowhere that it’s more on display than in the video below. Last summer, he teamed up with fellow golf pros Rickie Fowler, Ben Crane and Hunter Mahan to form the group Golf Boys and record the song “Oh Oh Oh.” The video is really something to behold.
