Jason Russell, founder of Invisible Children, and director of the viral video Kony 2012, was arrested in San Diego on Wednesday. According to San Diego police, Russell was guilty of vandalizing cars, but was also allegedly caught masturbating in public–this from a witness report. Yep. You don’t have to go back and read it again–I’ll repeat: He was caught masturbating in public. Allegedly.
According to preliminary reports, he was “acting strangely” and looked like he was masturbating.
So. Here’s a guy who was well known within the documentary crowd, and thrust into the popular limelight over the past couple of weeks, found masturbating in public, after having vandalized cars?
In all fairness, this statement was released just a few minutes ago from the CEO of Invisible Children, Ben Keesey:
Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason’s passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time.
So, basically he was roaming around with desert sickness, and was at his wit’s end. Unfortunate.
