Just in time for the new release of their carmaggedon-styled game where anything goes, provided that you’re in an ice cream truck — Sony has made a huge announcement.
You might’ve remembered the old Twisted Metal series, the closest thing you could get to a vehicular combat videogame nightmare — where cars hurtled towards each other destruction derby style, and the only way to win was to destroy all other competitors on the course…and occasionally roadblocks like the moon, the Eiffel tower, and every building standing around you. It was revolutionary in the manner that it wasn’t another game targeted for kids, more like violent comic book mavens who had read too much Preacher and grew up wishing that the Dukes of Hazzard were a tiny bit edgier. It was a popular hit, selling more than 15 million copies of the entire franchise and spanning more than 16 years of videogaming, with only Gran Turismo beating it out for the longest Playstation exclusive franchise.
And now, Sony has announced that they’re going to bring the nuanced explosions and vehicular combat to the big screen, perhaps tarnishing the franchise. Perhaps exposing more people to it?
Alls I know is that the Twisted Metal is in stores now, so if you’re a fan of nostalgia, or haven’t yet been able to experience Sweet Tooth’s delicious ice cream, check it out. You won’t regret it.
