Oh, God. That must be the worst feeling in the world. When you look at the body laying under your truck, and realize that it’s Gene Hackman, paragon of manliness. And you’ve only got a few seconds until he’s awake and angry.
That is exactly the situation that some poor sap in South Florida found himself in after a bike accident hurt the 81 year-old actor and former Marine. I can’t imagine the fear you’d feel after realizing you’d hit an elderly man on a bicycle, then realizing he’s responsible for some of the greatest action movies ever created, and a two-time Oscar winner. Then I would really panic. I’m sure he tried to pull off a hit-and-run, but Hackman’s masculinity dented the truck and wouldn’t’ve allowed for him to get away. I kid.
In all seriousness, though, the actor was airlifted to the hospital, but as it turns out, only suffered minor cuts and bruises. He’s a warrior. A Hackman-iac. Which is a lucky thing, considering that he was riding around without a helmet – maybe he is a real life Lux Luthor.
Hackman’s last starring role in film was in 2004, when he co-starred with Ray Romano in ‘Welcome To Mooseport’.
