Mark Wahlberg has Bieber Fever

By James Sheldon on December 28th, 2011

I have long been a fan of Mark Wahlberg. It’s easy to understand why Mark would have a sweet spot for the teen heartthrob, Justin Bieber–Mark was, after all, one himself some years ago. But don’t call him Marky Mark. Seriously. If you meet him…don’t. Yet in a recent interview, Mark crossed the line.

Mark and the Biebs are collaborating on this flic about the hard-knocks world of street hoops. From my understanding, Ian Edelman is the only key creative (writer) in place at this point, so we’re not destined to see this gem until 2013. But it will star Mark and the Biebs. Together.

In a recent interview, Mark made a few choice comment about Justin Bieber–nothing out of the ordinary, and nothing that hasn’t been said before. Merely stating that Justin Bieber has “it.” Yep. The same thing that Usher and many others have said about him. Apparently some definitions of “it” are open to interpretation. When I think it, I think Audrey Hepburn. However, beyond our agree to disagree, Mark Wahlberg went on to describe the film as the basketball version of The Color of Money.

Cinematic Blasphemy.

How dare you, Mark. You’re suggesting that you’re Paul Newman and that Justin Bieber is Tom Cruise…and you’re going to fool this former baller into believing that you teaching Justin Bieber to beat a lack of defense on a street court is comparable to Fast Eddie Felson teaching Vincent Lauria how to really work the green felt? I scoff–SCOFF at such a statement.

Why don’t we just say what’s taking place here. You’re having Ian Edelman jack the plot and character arcs of The Color of Money, and stick them on a basketball court. You’ll only pour more fuel on the fire when the best director you can score for this fantasy film is McG.

…still love you though, Mark. Big fan.
