December 21 2012: A Year From Destruction

By James Sheldon on December 21st, 2011

You’ve got a year. One year from today.

No. Not really according to the Mayan calendar, rather people who live near to the former Mayan empire and who are in dire need of profiting on something other than tourism and farming. A little research will offer enough insight to know that most claims by the populace are way off base, but it’s so much more fun to joke about the doomsday prophecy in the meantime, isn’t it?

There are a host of individuals who are sticking by their belief that the 2012 winter solstice will bring about the end of the world. Or, is it The End of the Age? Or do people not really known what they’re talking about, and just feel content to rest on speculation. Yes. More than likely that’s it.

It is pretty interesting and slightly ironic that it seems astronomers have found two “earth like” planets in the far reaches of space, just as this “beginning of the end” conversation cycle starts again. But then, astronomers in years past have also thought that they have found earth-like planets, only to find that the planets are merely full of stuff that we don’t understand, based in an atmosphere that would widely be considered poisonous to our many living species…however, I’m all ears as they dig into this newest discovery.

2012 certainly promises to be an interesting year. Sales are up. Business is increasing. People are changing careers. The government is now legally able to toss anyone into prison without due process if they’re deemed an enemy of the state. It is so intriguing to think about the disconnect we must have if, in fact–or in possibility rather than fact or probability–these ancient cultures were more in tune with all things natural. Certainly not hard to believe if they were. We’ve replaced everything, including intuition, with technology.

So. What’s your 2012 going to look like? Be like? Let’s share. Personally, if I find that an MRI of my knee doesn’t reveal a torn ACL, I’ll feel like the king of the world. Your turn.
