Baron Davis to Join New York Knicks

By James Sheldon on December 18th, 2011

Knickerbocker fans…jump on it.

I’m loving this NBA season that hasn’t even begun. The season, like so many, is too long to begin with…so all of these trades, free agent acquisitions and the sloppy ball that is to come–I’m stoked about it.

Baron Davis has cleared waivers, and will be joining the crew in New York City. Davis will fit in nicely with Carmello Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire, once the threesome develop some chemistry. That’s going to be the interesting mix. A lot of talent moving around, but not a lot of time to develop the relationships on the court. We all saw what happened in Miami last year with the newest combining of talent. However, this move is significantly different.

This move will offer another dynamic to the uptempo pace that coach Mike D’Antoni appreciates and relies on. Even if Baron Davis averages only 8 ppg, his athleticism alone will create better looks for Anthony and Stoudemire. It’s looking like the Eastern Conference has now become a legitimate four team race with Miami, Boston, New York and Chicago–potentially five depending on what Orlando chooses to do with Dwight Howard.

Who would have thought that a labor-shortened NBA season would be exactly what the league needed to institute some legitimate, regular season excitement? Seriously. The rhetoric here in L.A. The Lakers chatting it up. Feeling slighted. Tossing plenty of smack in the direction of the Clippers. Be sure to tune in for that throw down.

In the meantime, the tip-off goodies are served on Christmas day.
