Sam Hurd Arrested For Drug Trafficking

If you’re playing on a premiere, storied NFL team, what the hell are you doing trying to run a drug-operation on the side? These questions and more are going to be facing Sam Hurd soon in a courtroom.

Let it be known that I’m a gigantic Bears fan. Have been all my life – it’s mandatory when you’re from Chicago. Unless you want to be one of those contrary idiots who roots for the Packers just so they can get as much attention as possible. But when you find out one of your team’s wide receivers has been busted for possession and starting a drug ring, you have to wonder about the state of modern sports. It’s not like sports teams in the past didn’t do drugs recreationally or deal them, the issue is that contemporary athlete rake in enough money to make previous ones embarrassed. There’s absolutely no reason, short of reputation or real enthusiasm for narcotics, to be dealing them while you have a 59 million dollar contract, as Hurd does.

Authorities have been tracking his operation since he was playing in Dallas, where they found 85,000 in his car and a compatriot of his trying to order massive amounts of drugs.

The most interesting thing about this case? Apparently authorities have a double-digit list of people in the NFL who Hurd supplied, and he’s going to have to give up more so he doesn’t get the maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
