New Paramount Logo Debuts with Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

By James Sheldon on December 15th, 2011

Wanna see this beauty on the big screen? I do.

The Paramount logo represents the 100th anniversary of one of Hollywood’s most storied franchises. Hands down, it’s my favorite “movie lot” in Los Angeles, and there is just something absurdly–let me repeat that–absurdly romantic about pulling into that gorgeous, gated archway that reads Paramount. Perhaps it is the immediate nostalgia–the recollection of my youth…the corny logo they used in the 70s with the white on blue…no matte painting, no modified photograph, no high resolutions digital morphing that makes you long to climb a freakin’ mountain.

This new logo is a total success. Hear that Paramount big dogs? Brad Grey? You hear that? Complete. And total. Success. You need to know that. This one was hit out of the park.

If you want to get excited about the 100th anniversary logo–as dorkily excited as I am–you can watch it lead roll in this coming weekend’s box office winner Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Did I say it would win the weekend? I’m sticking to that statement. So many fantastic films to see this weekend.

As a little Did You Know:

The Paramount logo has changed multiple times in the studio’s 100 years. From the black and white that was introduced in 1916 to the matte painting of the 50s, the corny white on blue in the 70s, back to the full color mountain of the 80s–10 years ago the studio opted for the swirling stars of the new CGI era, complete with effective audio that made you feel like you were on the mountain for the first time. And now…just gorgeous.
