I didn’t watch the first GI Joe movie, because I felt like the return on my investment wouldn’t be there. You were paying for fun, with no guarantee you’d be having any.
The movie, however, managed to blitz the box office, grossing over 300 million dollars worldwide on a budet of only 175 million featuring the star power of Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dwayne Johnson, and Sienna Miller. So, it was a big fat hit – one that execs would feel merit a sequel. Overall, though, the movie was panned by critics…but you’re not going to let a bunch of critics get in the way of your summer blockbuster fun are you? Oh hells no, you’re not. So pave the way for the second coming of G.I. Joe. The trailer for G.I. Joe : Retaliation premiered yesterday, and by the looks of it, it’s an insert-buzzword high-octane thrillride adventursaurus waiting to stomp on every major city in the continental U.S. But the major addition that action fans should get excited about?
Bruce goddamn Willis. He’s been able to turn most movies that he’s in interesting, with the exception of efforts directed by Kevin Smith. I don’t care how old he is, if I know an action movie will be headlined by Bruce Willis, I am showing up.
