The cannonball they were using on Tuesday while testing the capability various projectiles when fired from a cannon–that cannonball went rogue. It was supposed to strike a wall of water barrels and a cinder block wall, but apparently, this variable guest member of the Mythbusters cast was more interested in partying in a nearby neighborhood.
The cannonball went flying over the target, over the hill separating the bomb range from suburbia, then crashed through a house where a couple was sleeping, went flying across the street, bounced off a roof and eventually came to rest after crashing through the window of a family’s minivan. Geez. Louise.
The Mythbusters have finally done it. They’ve created their own myth. 50 years from now, a revamped version of the show will talk about this happening as if it couldn’t have really happened as it did, and then they’ll have to fire a cannonball through a house, down a street and into a “classic” minivan.
Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman were both very distraught and very apologetic about the incident. They surveyed the damage and assured everyone involved that they would be taken care of. Adam Savage remarked that he would have been very angry if the shoe were on the other foot:
I have kids of my own, I have a house of my own; I can’t imagine how angry I would be to find this happening to it.
