American Airlines Files For Bankruptcy

By Mark Lorenz on November 29th, 2011

You might’ve noticed whilst flying American Airlines, the staff is desperately trying to hawk you things like snacks and earbuds and wondered why aloud. Wonder no more – the answer is clear.

American Airlines has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The airline representing America is bankrupt – we’re in a tough spot, people. When an airline that you trusted you to fly you from one destination to the next, knowing you would be beaten over the head with the more NBC/Universal dreck than one could imagine even existed. AMR Corp, the parent company of American Airlines, also filed for bankruptcy and ousted their chief executive.

The airline has been protesting for years that it pays higher labor costs than foreign and domestic rivals who have already restructured because of bankruptcy. Also, because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen The Proposal ten different times while flying, and Jesus Christ. America Airlines is planning on proceeding as normal as a company, but they’ve got the pensions of 130,000 workers to be supporting, and them filing may jeopardize some of those pensions.

Not cool, American. Just because you’re looking for ways to cut costs doesn’t mean you have to screw the little guy. You’re already doing that with your NBC/Universal programming.

Shares of AMR closed Tuesday down $1.36, or 84 percent, at 26 cents. Their 52-week high was $8.89, as of January 7th.
