Jay Cutler Injures His Thumb

By Mark Lorenz on November 21st, 2011

Stop breaking, Chicago quarterbacks. For once.

I mean, for the entirety of my adult life, they’ve been up a creek when it comes to quarterbacks, never sticking with the same one for more than a few years. The last really decent quarterback they had was Jim McMahon, a feat which is incredible, considering that was almost 30 years ago – since then it’s been a string of Rex Grossmans, Cade McNowns, a litany of masculine names that were as enduring as a breeze.

Now we have Jay Cutler, imported from Denver under the auspices that he’s going to be an incredible addition to the team – and he gets hurt twice in the last two seasons. The man was playing some pretty good football up until Sunday’s most recent game with the Chargers, when trying to tackle the man who picked him off earlier.

Cutler smashed his thumb up so badly, he’s going to require surgery to fix it. Which is doubly tragic, as it’s the hand he plays guitar with. Now Jay Cutler will not be able to regale you with classic rock hits as he so typically does from the sidelines after a game….wait. It was his passing thumb?

Oh, lord. Chicago’s screwed.
