SEC West is Best – BCS Still Sucks

By James Sheldon on November 20th, 2011

1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Arkansas

Yep. They’re all SEC squads. Not only that, they’re all three in the same division of the conference. This is the first time such has happened in the history of the BCS. The SEC West is truly flexing their muscle this year–watching any one of these three teams play is an early glimpse into the realm of future NFL commodities. Simply put, the SEC West is best.

Alabama’s single loss was to LSU. Arkansas’s single loss was to Alabama. Arkansas travels to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on Friday, in the traditional Battle for the Boot. The boot being that sweet piece of hardware that is shaped like the two states…looking like a boot, naturally. National Championship implications, you think?

If LSU continues to win, and wins out, or even if they lose, it creates a fascinating predicament for the BCS. An organization that will have to penalize a team such as Arkansas which could slip, but easily remain in the Top 10 after losing at #3…they could potentially remain in the Top 5 depending on what others squads do to finish the season. It’s shaping up to be another year full of evidence against the BCS.

Ultimately, with the likelihood of an Alabama v. LSU rematch looming, that would essentially bump the current #3 from the BCS mix, altogether if they’re from the SEC. This is because of the BCS rules and layout. Gotta get in the champions from joke conferences like the Big East. Remember that rousing Fiesta Bowl last year? UCONN vs. Oklahoma? What. A. Waste of a game.

Continuing in the grand tradition of the BCMess, it’s looking more like a potential 9-3 Rutgers or a 7-5 Louisville will take the Big East. And this team gets an automatic BCS Bowl berth, over a squad like Arkansas, Alabama or LSU. Yes. If two SEC squads are to play for the BCS National Championship, regardless if another was to hypothetically finish #3 in the final BCS poll, they’d be out of the BCS picture.

The BCS still sucks.
