What will television be without Regis Philbin? What will your mornings be without his heavy New York accent projecting out at you, lulling you into a happy mood for the rest of the day? Or his music albums? Or David Letterman mocking him?
Unfortunately, we’ll have to find out soon enough. Regis Philbin signed off today from his morning show after 28 years of being in broadcasting. 28 years. He’s been on TV for more than 17,000 hours in a career that dates back to the 1960’s – and you might’ve seen him host on a little show called ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. The audience was dotted with celebrities who he can count as friends, including Katie Couric, Donald Trump, Alan Alda, Meredith Viera, and most importantly – Tony Danza.
Regis is going to go on a book tour to promote his book ‘How I Got This Way’.
Beyond that, who knows? Maybe he’ll take time off to enjoy time with his grandkids, taking them to museums, making them delicious glasses of lemonade. Maybe he’ll retire to a tropical island somewhere and regale the natives with his stories.
Or maybe he’s going to haunt you and hide in your bedroom closet, and be more evil than you ever expected him to be.
In any case, we’ll miss him.
