Please stop the noise, I’m trying to get some rest — thousands of people will be mouthing those words along with the alt-iest alt band that ever alted. Radiohead has announced their new US tour. That sound you heard is people who are excited, but too world-weary and crushed with paranoia to celebrate in the open. They will be lighting candles.
Radiohead are one of the biggest and most well-respected bands in the world, according to anybody you talk to with a cynical streak and wire-rimmed glasses. Or Michael Stipe. Or myriad music critics. After selling 30 million albums, putting out classic album after classic album and bits of noise experimentation ….it all comes down to whether or not they can put together an enjoyable live show. And by all accounts, Radiohead’s live shows are the stuff of legends. They include laser-shows, alien–like dancing, and Jonny Greenwood’s capable noise-guitar mastery. Along with memorable songs, an insane atmosphere, and like-minded people.
The jaunt starts out in Miami and will stretch across seven states, so if you know anyone who’d enjoy listening to Thom Yorke’s angelic falsetto of doom, be sure to give them the heads up, and if you’re feeling really generous, buy them some tickets. Times are hard.
