Rick Perry Gaffe Spells Campaign Doom

By James Sheldon on November 10th, 2011

Poor Rick. Not the greatest public speaker. More of the type who might offer a decent pregame speech, rather than a focused, bullet-point key note that might suggest a shift in perspective and philosophy.

Gaffe. I didn’t know people still used the word gaffe. According to Rick Perry, last night he “stepped in it,” during the Republican debate. Trying to get specific, his train of thought screeched to a halt, and he just couldn’t light the boiler again.

Stated the Texan:

“And I will tell you, it is three agencies of government when I get there that are gone: Commerce, Education, and the — what’s the third one there? Let’s see–”

Ron Paul tried to help out by stating that it should be FIVE government agencies that should be gone, to which Perry and the audience chuckled. It was only a jab by Mitt Romney suggesting that Perry was speaking about the EPA that the crowd let Perry off the hook with a laugh. Still, the Texas Governor could not remember what the third agency was. And perhaps that’s because he sees it as so unnecessary that it’s not worth remembering…just removing from the scope of federal government.

Unfortunately, this won’t serve as just another hiccup. Perry is done. He should save his supporters a lot of money, and suggest that they invest in charitable works. Along those lines, Herman Cain is also done. It may take people awhile to get the lowdown on the sexual harassment tip, but his dance around the controversy will get old quickly. Frankly, he sounds just like a politician when talking about it.

Sorry, Rick. It was a nice little run. Swallow the pride, brother, it just ain’t happenin’ this time around.
