Geoffrey Mutai Wins New York Marathon

By Mark Lorenz on November 6th, 2011

If you heard the sound of grunting and trumpets going on outside of your door, you might’ve borne witness to a band orgy, or the sounds of today’s New York Marathon.

I was. I was wondering, what is that cheering located directly outside my door? Why are there so many people clapping – is it because I managed to wake up before the hours of 10 AM? No. There were thousands of people participating in the New York marathon – but only one man who’d come out to receive the prize money, bragging rights, and be the victor. That man is Geoffrey Mutai, who managed to win the 26 mile race in the record time of 2:05:06. He was cheered on by throngs of people handing out Gatorade, banging on bongo drums, and here in Williamsburg – playing music with their band to try to get an iota of exposure.

Mutai managed to smash the record for the Boston Marathon last month, running at an impressive 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 2 seconds. He was running five minute miles essentially for 26 miles. That is insanity.

You deserve all the prize money in the world, and a nice ice bath, Mr. Mutai. Congratulations, and love your limbs.
