The show that launched the careers of so many comedic actors is set to come back to television — you heard right, ‘In Living Color’.
‘In Living Color’ was conceived of ostensibly when somebody noticed that ‘Saturday Night Live’ hired non-white people at a rate of one every 5 years. To this day, they had trouble finding a person to play Obama. Naturally this caused a backlash, so a gang of the Wayans brothers delivered ‘In Living Color’. The show was shown on Fox from 1990 to 1994, launching the careers of several modern-day superstars including Damon Wayans, Jim Carrey, and Jennifer Lopez…more specifically it did not launch the career of Keenan Ivory Wayans, which is maybe the impetus for his planning to bring back the show for 2 half-hour specials. Realistically though, we’re at a place that’s pretty staid an anemic for television sketch comedies. That marketplace has mostly been dominated by the Internet and amateur-hour shows like Smosh or any other drudgery that you can find on YouTube.
It’ll be fresh with a nice little historical perspective…I fully support this endeavor. For too long, whatever competitors ‘Saturday Night Live‘ has had have fallen by the wayside despite them slowly circling the drain.
Let’s enjoy ourselves.
