The Farrelly brothers are prepping to put Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne back on the big screen. No, not some awful prequel starring a couple of guys who resemble Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels…an actual sequel, starring…Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels!!!!
Well. That’s the plan.
It has been nearly 20 years since we last saw Lloyd and Harry, passing on an opportunity to roll with the Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Team. I assume they probably found their way back to Providence, Rhode Island, somehow found some investment collateral and opened their specialty store, I Got Worms. I’m very hopeful that Sean Anders and John Morris–who have been pegged to pen the screenplay–work the store into the status quo.
The Farrelly brothers just finished filming the Three Stooges, and when asked what they were working on next, they stated a Dumb and Dumber sequel. Thought to be a joke…nope. Seriously. The Farrelly brothers are serious. New Line Cinema is serious. I suppose it’s dependent on negotiating with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels…and I hope they say yes, but are never once serious.
Sure, it’s easy to be nervous about the quality of a sequel to such a token of comedic gold, but it’s also just as easy to take the risk. Because I’ve been wondering about Lloyd and Harry since 1994, and I bet you have, too.
On that note…a little something to stir up the nostalgia.
