It’s mystifying to me why we’ve built up a climate of just LOATHING poor people for all of their faillings. Don’t they have enough problems without being spat on by cantidates that are going to be running for President? The GOP doesn’t think so, as evidenced in the epic storm that was last night’s debate.
One thing you’ll notice in these GOP debates is the same type of anti-poor, anti-government rhetoric that’s been a hallmark of the grand ol’ party for the last twenty years or so. Only because times are tougher now, because everything’s unravelling– so is the perception that we need to actually be civil to each other. At the last debate, gay soldiers were booed — because screw them, right? Who needs to be respecting the people who protect our country — it’s much better to pay lip service to those traits and qualities instead of actually following through on them.
In this last debate, Herman Cain reiterated his stance that poor people have no-one to blame except for themselves, and the audience cheered.
So here are your choices for the next election — you can have a guy who everyone is claiming ruined the whole country, who actually gets legislation passed, or people who stand by while poor people get castigated and gay soldiers get booed. It’s your choice.
