Real Steel To Trash Everyone At The Box Office

By Mark Lorenz on October 8th, 2011

If you had told me ages ago that a movie where robots get trained to punch each other in the face by a former swingin’ dancin’ Broadway man was going clean up the box office one day — I would’ve punched you in the face. In an action similar to what said robots are aspiring for.

But that’s what’s going down this weekend. Real Steel — the movie features shoe Hugh Jackman as a trainer for boxing robots from the future is looking to take first place with grosses somewhere in the mid-20’s. Opening in second? A Ryan Gosling movie. For all the hype that gets tossed around about Ryan Gosling, you’d think his female fan base would come out and support movies that he does which aren’t romantic comedies. His new thriller the Ides of March, with George Clooney and Evan Rachel Wood is looking to open in the 10-12 million dollar range. Coming in third, Dolphin Tale, and bringing up the rear is Moneyball.

So if you’re in the mood to see the very first movie that features positive reviews of robot boxers, drag your sorry, out of shape, not automaton derrière to the theaters to see Real Steel. You’ll thank me. Or want to hit me. Like a rock ‘em sock ‘em robot in IMAX
