X-Factor Auditions Tantalize Internet, Viewers

X-Factor made an impressive debut this week.

For a show that’s essentially competing against  rip-offs of itself on several different night network the auditions for the X factor did not disappoint. What a diverse group of judges they have running that ship — they’ve got LA Reid, music exec who revolutionized the Atlanta scene, they have Nicole SCHERZZINGGA, noted Pussycat Doll and personality vacuum. Then there’s Paula Abdul, the overmedicated one from American Idol and Simon Cowell, king of judges and man boobs — so they already have a diverse group of characters behind the table. The prize limits have been raised to give the winner a $5 million recording contract — which means this time if they fall off the face of the earth a lot more people have their money tied up. Do you hear me Ruben Studdard? Keep washing my car. Then you get an ad in the Super Bowl so this will be the year people will have to actively try to forget you.

Even with all that the X-Factor proved to come out swinging for Fox, giving us some compelling auditions including a guy straight from rehab, a woman who works as a rugby coach, and a student who was the only person in a singing competition in recent years they could actually sing. So if the X-Factor is able to maintain viewership it will be great to see Simon on TV again, with his half-scouring half-bemused, wholly incredulous look which made Idol worth watching in the first place
