They’re Remaking Scarface?!?!

By Mark Lorenz on September 21st, 2011

How can you make such a weirdly well-regarded movie, with a performance that defined Al Pacino’s later career and Brian De Palma? How can you do that?

Hollywood is a well of terrible right now, with buckets being dredged up from the 80’s – making nearly everything a retro style piece. Come on. Scarface could’ve only happened in the 80’s. Only in the 80’s would that happen – Michelle Pfieffer? De Palma? Pacino? With a script from Oliver Stone, who’s now a giant blowhard making movies like Wall Street 2?

Come on. You can’t remake Scarface. How will rappers and collegiate freshman take this, being that Scarface is one of the most revered films in the canon to both groups? Universal Studios has announced that a new film in the Scarface canon has been announced, either to replace the older version held in high esteem by so many people erroneously – or another to be a prequel/sequel. I almost don’t want to know which it is. But come on, Conan bombed, Fright Night bombed, most of the remakes that happened this year bombed – how terrible would it be if you made another Scarface and it was unsuccessful?? We don’t need that. Let’s avoid that, Universal.

Seriously.
