Bob Hope is one of the most prominent comedians to ever transition out of vaudeville into the mainstream. He had a career that lasted for decades, and a marriage that did the same. Yesterday, his widow passed.
The only man who didn’t like Bob Hope was Christopher Hitchens, and to be fair, he doesn’t think women are funny and is about to be claimed by cancer. So who cares?
Dolores Hope has passed at the ripe old age of 102. Hope lived until the age of 101. Jesus Christ, their kids are going to be immortal. Bob and Dolores Hope most likely gave birth to the first people that will live to be 200 since the Bible. She was born in the Bronx and worked as a lounge singer in Manhattan. After seeing her sing ‘It’s Only A Paper Moon’, Bob Hope declared he would marry her, and he did.
She put off her singing career to raise their four children and add real estate to their giant, expanding portfolio. And in her 80’s, resumed it…released CD’s of old jazz standards that were critically lauded. Think about that. Imagine suspending your career whilst being married to one of the most prominent comedians of the time — then restarting it when you’re old enough to be a grandmother many times over.
Dolores will be buried next to Bob. Rest in peace.
