Netflix Subscribers are Bailing for Blockbuster

By James Sheldon on September 15th, 2011

For years Netflix has been dealing blow after blow to Blockbuster, as well as numerous other indie rental houses. We all wondered when Blockbuster would counter–it seems they are taking their first legitimate swing.

Netflix revolutionized the industry by never charging late fees, allowing a slew of movies for a low monthly subscription price and then adding to their library of discs the ability to stream movies and tv shows through a host of technological devices–a host, I say!

Hollywood producers aren’t stupid. In fact, they’re quite shrewd. When they see someone raking it in, you can bet your life on the fact that they’ll do their best to see a bigger slice of the pie. Do trust. Personal experience leads me to a detailed understanding–these guys thrive in a capitalistic society.

In a classic big money haggle, Netflix is losing STARZ Play, they’re shelling out more for streaming capabilities from certain studios and have subsequently boosted the price of your subscription. My subscription. All subscriptions.

There are now options allowing you to choose from the streaming, disc rental or both. More for Bluray. But with the breakdown, the level of attrition is proving stronger than what Netflix executives thought they’d see. Seems they were off by a cool million subscribers.

Like the Italian Stallion, Rocky Balboa, Blockbuster has taking the beating time and time again, and as millions flee their Netflix memberships, Blockbuster is letting the American public know that they’re still around, offering the same services as Netflix via mail, with better prices, streaming capability and the addition of Bluray and video games at no extra charge.

I’ll tell you…forget all that other stuff we’re worried about in ‘Merica. This is all we need. A renewed spar between Netflix and Blockbuster.

Netflix has become too greedy. I stopped using them and started using TVDevo for streaming TV and Movies. Also use Redbox for $1 per movie.
