You can’t remake Point Break. You cannot remake a classic only a few short years after Patrick Swayze rode Via Condiho into the great beach in the sky. But that’s what Hollywood is trying to do.
Which makes me angry at Hollywood. It’s not enough that you’re slacking off and casting the sisters and brothers and daughters of famous so-and-so’s, you have to spoil one of the greatest action films of the 90’s — nay, EVER? I won’t have it. I won’t let you defile the Swayze’s memory like that. A few years back, it was rumored that Point Break was going to get in the mix for a sequel, but those plans died out. Now, during the same week where Hollywood announced that they’re remaking Highlander and The Thing — the news spills that they’re going to tell the tale of Bodie and Johnny Utah all over again. Sans everyone with acting talent, probably with some second-rate heartthrobs pulled from the CW or any other various networks. The kind of ’stars’ who won’t have a career once the run of their show ends.
I don’t have any words. If you haven’t seen the original Point Break or The Thing — run to your Netflix cue and get them now.
Sad day.
