Manny Ramirez Arrested for Domestic Battery

By James Sheldon on September 13th, 2011

Manny Ramirez brought the black cloud that presently hangs over the Dodgers franchise. I’m sure Dodgers fans hearing this story are shaking their heads in shame, then face-palming when they realize that they’re still paying this guy! Seriously. Still paying him. That’s how asinine contracts work.

Manny was hoping for a final career surge in Tampa, after a short, worthless stint in the south side of Chicago, when he tested positive, yet again, for a banned substance. Fortunately, Rays fans didn’t have to watch his lack of effort on the field for a single game.

Digressing:

Last night, Manny and his wife, Juliana, had a little tiff–a lovers’ quarrel–which resulted in a call to 9-1-1. Manny supposedly slapped his wife, who then bumped her head on the bed, causing some light bruising. Fortunately for Juliana, the contact was about as damaging as his last at-bat for the Dodgers. He was ejected from the premises in that one, too.

More than anything, I’m curious what they were arguing about. It certainly sounds like they were in bed, or near the bed. Was he eating something that was leaving crumbs on the sheets? Did he fart, and laugh about it? Manny was arrested after police came to the Ramirez home in Fort Lauderdale, and he was released on $2,500 bond this morning. Just more money that Frank McCourt wishes he had in his pocket, no doubt.

Manny claims that he did not slap his wife, rather shrugged her off during the argument. Perhaps she was the first to instigate contact? Who knows, and who really cares? The judge ordered Ramirez not to contact his wife directly. Leaving the Broward County Sheriff’s office, Manny declined to comment in detail, opting instead to rattle a few things off in Spanish.

I suppose this is just another case of Manny being Manny.
