Ricky Gervais To Live-Trash The Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais Golden Globes 2011Ricky Gervais lit the internet and the collective asses of the Hollywood elite on fire when he hosted the Golden Globes last year.

People decried his hosting job as a mean hit-parade on all of the suits sitting quietly in a room, celebrating the most pointless of awards ceremonies – but people tuned in to watch. To the tune of a ratings high – to the point where they asked him back the next year, but declined. Instead? Gervais may be setting up a podcast to make fun of the awards AS they’re happening. Instead of a live-blogging – a live-podcasting ripping on the people who receive the statues that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association get good money to bestow on lackluster films. Rumored guests would include Louis C.K., Larry David, Chris Rock, and really, that’s all you need, don’t you?

Instead of one host, you get a bunch of them together. The greatest comedians of our time making a spectacle out of what once was a sacred cow. All for free, via the democratic tube that is the internet.

I’m on board. Sign me up. If they’re able to wrangle sponsors and somehow monetize the thing and it becomes bigger than the Golden Globes – it would be the greatest thing Gervais has ever done.
