College Football Rankings: A Shuffle at the Top

What does it matter, right? It all eventually funnels into the BCS, but we’ve got weeks to go until we–college football fans–can complain about the computer system that screws at least one team annually.

For the first few weeks, however, we enjoy the AP Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Coaches are obviously biased, especially with the great conference shuffle that began taking place in 2009. I prefer to roll with the AP Top 25, but you can’t really put the stamp of legitimacy on the writers either. Regardless, they both look logical after one week, other than the fact that I can’t buy the Oklahoma hype. Can’t drink that Kool-Aid. OU fans have to be the most understanding why.

The Boise State rhetoric has already become annoying, just as I predicted last week. They beat Georgia at the Georgia Dome, and the pundits now lay the stick to the SEC–as if Georgia is a formidable SEC foe. Georgia was beyond overrated–should not have been in the Top 25. Boise will now take their walk through the park vs. what amounts to quality high school teams, and complain about the BCS National Championship snub when the selection show rolls around.

After LSU dispatched Oregon from the Top 10, the AP Top 25 rounded out as following:

1. Oklahoma (32) 1-0
2. LSU (17) 1-0
