We were slapped in the face with more flaccid superhero movies this summer than a writer on all-fours in some Disney back office. And it wasn’t good for some people.
The summer is over – people are going back to school, the cold weather’s about to set in, and people are generally walking around with sad expressions painted on their face that can only be explained by the coming months of dreariness. Fortunately, we’ve had a good summer for movies and a bad summer for movies. Collectively, some studios (WB) cleaned up at the box-office, bringing in over two billion dollars, while others turned out not so lucky. It must be said, though, that this summer proved one thing : everyone is sick of Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds is not a movie star. He can’t open a movie that looks terrible, no matter how many times his agent puts him in one – and between The Amityville Horror, Waiting, Just Friends, and about a dozen other examples. This summer he headlined two movies – The Change Up and The Green Lantern.
And despite everyone’s best efforts in marketing and poop jokes, both bombed. The Green Lantern grossed 206 million dollars worldwide on a 200 million dollar budget, and The Change-Up has only cashed in to the tune of 34.5 million.
So here’s hoping you get less work NEXT summer, Reynolds.
