Frank Darabont was canned from the AMC hit, The Walking Dead.
It’s not as if he created the show. This shouldn’t be much of a loss for the sophomore, Sci-Fi/Horror zombie drama, right?
This is almost unbelievable. The fact that AMC shipped Frank Darabont to Comic-Con, then reconvened in Georgia with the cast and crew to announce that Darabont would no longer be a part of the production…seriously…unbelievable. But perhaps it shouldn’t be.
I have no idea what caused the irreparable damage between Darabont and AMC execs, but supposedly the show’s creator had a problem with one of the episodes in which he considered some of the footage unusable. At least, that apparently served as a final straw.
It’s certainly no secret that Mr. Darabont has a healthy ego, but I have to believe that’s based solely on his artistic integrity. The guy doesn’t want his name on crap. We’re talking the writer-director of The Shawshank Redemption, here!
AMC has their hands full of so many cult-popular shows, and having previous issues with the creators of Mad Men and Breaking Bad, it only seemed a matter of time before there was a little poo splatter on production office fan. The cast and crew were shocked to learn of the departure, yet none of them are talking. Would you talk if you were an actor on a show where killing you off was as simple as following the story line?
