Alex Rodriguez Apparently Loves to Play Poker

By James Sheldon on August 4th, 2011

He’s a divisive figure. You can certainly say that about the multi-million dollar man. The Yankees third baseman, A-Rod, A-Roid, Douchebag (if you’re a Red Sox fan) or Alex Rodriguez to the rest of us, is potentially in trouble with MLB and commissioner Bud Selig.

Rodriguez apparently sat down to a little poker competition with some Hollywood types–he was apparently playing with a group in Beverly Hills. I’ve been to Beverly Hills. Nice place. Unfortunately, there is no legal gambling to be found in Beverly Hills, unless you’re doing it online with a Sportsbook, and technically, that’s not legal either thanks to the George W. Bush signed safe ports and harbors act.

Digressing, Rodriguez has been slapped on the wrist for this six years ago when the gamer sat down to a similar scenario to enjoy the game of skill and chance with his own money. Gambling on games? No. But gambling illegally–according to Big Brother, and the MLB–you better believe it.

At present, Rodriguez has nothing more than a toe in the hot-tub. The MLB is investigating, and one anonymous source apparently close to Bud Selig stated that the commissioner is “fed up” with the Yankees All-Star. It’ll be interesting to see if someone drags A-Rod on in to the hot water, or shoves him in from behind.

If Rodriguez is found to have participated in these private games, get ready to see Yankees fans riot and Red Sox fans rejoice. Unless Selig wants to be labeled a hypocrite in addition to being labeled a worthless commissioner, he’ll have to drop the boom with a harsh penalty if these allegations prove to be true.

A-Rod’s publicist released a statement–apparently, there are gross factual inaccuracies in the hearsay that has been leveled against his client.

We’ll see.
