Money can make a person, really really odd. Such is the case of Dave Chappelle, who is rumored to be mounting a comeback – but still bringing the same crazy that you know and love.
Chappelle’s Show was an unparalleled success for Comedy Central, becoming the top selling DVD series of all time and netting Dave a salary in the excess of 30 million dollars – essentially being paid more than top athletes to make a show with his favorite rap stars, comics, with a huge degree of creative control. So sometimes it makes you wonder whether or not Comedy Central’s execs were the cause of the problems or Chappelle’s internal monologues.
Whatever the case may be, Chappelle was booked for an Alonzo Mourning charity gig, and upset at an audience member who was recording him – proceeded to go 46 minutes talking without telling a single joke. 46 minutes. Do you know how hard it is for someone who’s a comic to go 46 minutes without cracking a single silly? It has to be a willful act of malevolence. He had to be angry at an audience for a CHARITY event.
Chappelle was booed off the stage. Something I’m sure he’ll cry into his millions about.
