Stars shine brighter in the desert, don’t they? I’ve been to the desert–they do.
The Major League Baseball Mid-Summer Classic kicks off tonight at 8pm EDT/5PDT, hosted by the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field. The roof will be closed, as it will be hotter than Hades in Phoenix, but with a little added elevation, perhaps the balls will enjoy a little more energy playing into the record books as an exciting game.
I’m the dork purist who always hopes for a 2-1 pitcher’s duel in the All-Star Game, but being that no pitcher will probably throw more than two innings, I say to all those playing the game: Make it rain.
Kind of a weird All-Star lineup. Today’s news is all about Jeter–Jeter isn’t coming. So be it. While I think he should have made an appearance so baseball nation could celebrate his 3,000 hits, and then just chilled in the dugout, it’ll be better baseball without him there.
Did I just say that? I believe I did. And I’m sure DJ is well aware that he would be the 4th best SS to see action in the game. Nah, I’m not tossing him under the bus–I’m trying to prod him to play like he’s still capable–him being a huge Manolith reader and all.
I got a kick out of David Letterman last night who was bashing the game because a bunch of Yankees and “starting pitchers” aren’t going to be there. But Dave, Russell Martin is there. Robinson Cano. Curtis Granderson. Ah, Yankees fans.
I’m thrilled about the players who are playing in this ASG–two beasts starting on the bump in Roy Halladay and Jered Weaver, and two line ups that can absolutely obliterate a baseball. Sure, injuries have pulled a few fan favorites from both the AL and NL rosters, but it’s a hard argument that some of those “All-Stars” are actually playing all-star baseball.
The National League finally broke out of a 13 year drought (with the exception of the tie and official stamp of douchery on Bud Selig at Miller Park) last year, and I like the NL again this season.
