Transformers 3 Is Now The Highest-Grossing Movie Of The Year

By Mark Lorenz on July 10th, 2011

Thanks to all of you, we may be seeing a lot more of giant fighting robots that bleed colored motor oil and are voiced by old cast members of Star Trek.

Thanks to you, America. You’ve managed, instead of catapulting the wonderfully written Horrible Bosses to the forefront, to stuff the coffers of Michael Bay and the entire effects department of ILM – of which Transformers 3 acts as a giant highlight reel. Transformers 3, despite being the purported ‘best’ movie of the Transformers series (it’s not), despite replacing Megan Fox with the purportedly ‘better’ Rosie-Huntington Whitely (she’s not), despite doing all those things, nobody was able to see through that and resist from pressing the tiny buttons online and in movie theaters that dispenses tickets.

In total, Transformers has scooped up 261 million dollars domestically, not even covering the grosses internationally. That puts it ahead of The Hangover Part II (250 million), Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides (236 million), Fast Five (208 million), and Thor (178 million). All that for giant fighting robots. Hey, if you can’t entertain them with story, entertain them with Leonard Nimoy holding a giant sword and Rosie’s ass-cheeks.

To be fair, they were the best ass cheeks in 3D since Jackass, but get your priorities straight, America.
