Ohio State University aka THE Ohio State University to alum. and SLOhio State University to fans of the SEC, has slapped themselves on the backside, imposing their own sanctions.
The university has vacated all of the wins from the 2010 football season, including their win over Arkansas in the 2011 Sugar Bowl. Salt in the wound for OSU fans, who thought the university and the football program was finally on a comparable level of competition as some of the SEC’s 4th and 5th place squads.
Along with releasing the victories from last season, the university also waived the $250,000 fine assessed to former Coach Jim Tressel, and have changed his resignation to a retirement. This will mean a lot to the school 100 years from now when we’re all dead, and some kid is researching the illustrious OSU football history.
In addition to the self-imposed spanking, the university is also placing itself on a 2-year probation for the violations stemming from the dishonesty within the player and coaching camps.
I haven’t been able to stomach the OSU football program since Jim Tressel took over. I loved him at Youngstown State, but that was before so many skeletons came dancing out of the closet. It seems the Tressel programs have never been very clean. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hear you, OSU fans–all programs are dirty…certainly my beloved LSU, and all the other SEC squads, right?
All that having been said, I commend the university on doing their best to make this right. The timing certainly stinks, considering the new and improved Big 10 goes into action this fall. I just hope those Terrelle Pryor memories are worth it.
