Man Robs Bank for Medical Care in Prison

Grand Larceny. That’s the crime. Without a weapon there is no charge of armed robbery, so for committing the crime, you can usually get about 36 months in the clink.

That’s exactly what Richard Verone of Gastonia, NC, was hoping for.

Desperate for medical attention, yet not having a job or insurance, Mr. Verone reasoned that he could get the medical care that he needed in the state prison system.

He would be correct. It is a perk of breaking the law. Free medical care from the state’s taxpayers, including dental. I certainly don’t enjoy those benefits…I’m sure many of you reading this don’t either. Makes a heck of a lot of sense, huh?

Verone has a growth in his chest as well as two ruptured disks. He decided that he would pursue the avenue of desperation, wrote a note, handed it to the teller–he demanded $1, and stated that he had a gun, though he had no weapon. The teller gave him the dollar.

After receiving his buck, Verone stated that he would be sitting on one of the couches in the lobby, waiting for the police to arrive. The police showed up after a 911 call, arrested Verone and booked him–he is being held on $2,000 bail.

Verone stated that he is a person of logic, and that this was his most logical option he could think of, all things considered. In terms of manipulating the court system–he has no real problem with it–neither do I. It is yet another issue of asininity within our state and federal governments.

Such behavior is actually quite common. While most opt for other crimes, Verone’s dollar thievery has to be one of the most unique.
