It’s about goddamn time. Dave Chappelle has announced that he might be making a comeback to television.
For those of you who remember the run of Chappelle’s Show from 2002-2005, you remember some of the best sketch comedy to somehow make its way onto the airwaves. Between the sketches that detail celebrity feuds with Prince and Rick James, the send-ups of Tupac songs and shows on MTV, and the random guest features from people like Wayne Brady and Paul Mooney – the show bridged decades in comedy, old school hip-hop, and was hilarious enough to be accessible to people of all ages. Chappelle was upset with the direction the show started to go in, though, and ducked out on top – spawning rumors that he was crazy.
Since then he’s been lying low, popping up here and there to do stand-up comedy, but a new report says that Chappelle will be working on a show specifically for a subscription entertainment service – something like Netflix or Crackle.
Which would be amazing. There’s so much happening that needs a Chappelle spin on it – and if he didn’t have a falling out with Neal Brennan, then maybe the dream team could re-unite.
Or maybe it’s wishful thinking. Stay tuned.
