It would have been a lot more interesting to see Plaxico Burress released from the pokey if the NFL were actually a functional football league.
Seeing Drew Rosenhaus sprint to Burress and leap into his arms was a perfect reminder that someone needs to get back to work milking his cows.
As it stands, Plax was released with $40 from his prison bank account, and will be able to enjoy the freedoms and privileges that he hasn’t enjoyed in the past two years. Top priority for Burress: Getting back into football shape, and hoping and praying that this lockout ends.
If you’ll remember, Burress was convicted of a gun crime in NYC, a crime that in many other states would allow for a face-palm, followed by a steady dose of razzing from teammates and friends. He shot himself in the leg while at a nightclub, then Mayor Michael Bloomberg proceeded to persecute the heck out of the guy a year after he brought the fair weather Bloomberg’s city a Super Bowl.
Plax did the crime, did the time, worked out a lot while in the joint and stated that he’ll ready to roll once signed in an interview earlier today. In a twist of intention, Burress came out of the facility sporting a Philadelphia Phillies cap. It’s no secret that he would love to join Michael Vick in Philly, and it would seem he’d be a good fit at a bargain.
I’m one of those who believes that many teams will express interest in Burress. They guy is still relatively young in football years, and having a couple years off has probably done wonders for his perspective. Joining Vick in Philadelphia would certainly give NFC East rivals more than enough trash to talk, but Philly is the City of Brotherly Love, and what says brotherly love more than forgiveness?
