Oh, Tiki.
I believe this to be the 3rd time I’ve written about the former Giants football star in a 12 month span, which means that after this one, I’m done. He’ll be filed away with a certain former Alaska governor, and a self-proclaimed Real Estate billionaire who is under the delusion that he pretty much owns NY.
Tiki, twin brother of future Hall of Fame corner back, Ronde Barber, began rubbing people the wrong way after he retired from the game of football early to preserve his body and pursue a career in the realm of entertainment, color commentary and offending just about everyone with his actions and words. First it was his former Giants teammates and coaching staff, who went on to win the Super Bowl the season after he bailed. Then it was his pregnant wife, who he bailed on for a 23 year-old girlfriend.
Now, in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s L. Jon Wertheim he has more than likely offended the entire American Jewish population. He told Wertheim that after leaving his wife, that he moved into the attic of his agent Mark Lepselter, to avoid the negative spotlight. Quote Tiki:
“Lep’s Jewish…and it was like a reverse Anne Frank thing.”
While there is no solid confirmation on such a statement, there is also no real context offered. No doubt, the two were joking around; however, this is classic Tiki–we’ve heard him drop morsels like this on NBC, as well in post-game interviews in the past. While there is no harm intended, it is yet another statement grossly lacking tact.
Barber is in the midst of an attempted NFL comeback, and it looks as if he’s already got his WTF verbal swagger back in shape.
