Lady Gaga Shuts Down Amazon??

By Mark Lorenz on May 23rd, 2011

Lady Gaga’s new album of mismatched Eurodisco cacophony made its way around the world today, charting at number 1 in 22 countries, and proving that we live in a era where style will always always, ALWAYS trump substance.

But in addition to this impressive feat, she managed to crash on of the world’s largest websites. In an effort to increase her record sales, her promotional team has pulled out all the stops – offering the album at Best Buy, and a special promotional deal with Amazon, the online mega-store. The catch? They were offering the album for 99 cents – contrasting iTunes’ offering of 16 bucks. Who wouldn’t buy an album for less than the price of a bottle of water? Of course, people who don’t know how to use the internet flocked to the website en masse, trying to get their little slice of try hard for less than a buck. The result was such a huge surge in Amazon’s traffic that the site temporarily crashed.

Lady Gaga managed to crash a billion-dollar website. What’s going to happen when she goes near a nuclear power plant or a missile silo? We need to think of the children. Protect the children from a Gaga gone radioactive.
