Randall Poffo, best known as the Macho Man Randy Savage, was killed in a car accident this morning. His wife Lynn was with him in his 2009 Jeep Wrangler, when Randy apparently had a heart attack while driving around 9:25 a.m., and crashed through a concrete median before striking a tree.
Lynn Poffo was treated for minor injuries, and Randy was pronounced dead by medical personnel after an attempt to treat him through emergency services.
Police have reported that there was no alcohol involved in the crash. The report of the heart attack was offered to various news sources by Lanny Poffo, Randy’s brother. Whether he had spoken to Lynn or was informed by medical or emergency personnel, it is unknown–no further information has been released.
Randy Savage was adored by wrestling fans, as well as his professional peers. He was a true showman in every sense of the word, and was instrumental in taking wrestling from smack-around theatrics to a worldwide, athletic phenomenon that launched cults and trends in the sport, including the backyard wrestling craze.
For non-wrestling fans, Macho Man Randy Savage was well known as the celebrity spokesperson who taught us all how to better “snap into a SlimJim.”

In my own words, I believe Randy Savage to be one of the greatest actors I have ever witnessed perform. When I saw Heath Ledger’s performance as “The Joker” in The Dark Knight, I could only think of the beloved Macho Man Randy Savage.
