Brock Lesnar has pulled out of UFC 131 in a fight against Junior dos Santos due to illness. This will be the second time the fighter has contracted diverticulitis, a condition that causes pouches to form in the instead of the large intestine and outside of the colon. The last time was in October 2009.
“I wouldn’t have been 100 per cent on June 11. I’m not 100 per cent now,” Lesnar spoke out during a conference call. “This is an unfortunate situation for me. I dodged a bullet about two years ago . . . at that time, not knowing what the problem was.”
He added: “My health and my family are more important than stepping into the octagon for [any amount] of money. If you ain’t got your health and your family, you don’t got diddly-squat.”
He joins other champions Frankie Edgar, Jon Jones and Cain Velasquez who are all out for medical reasons.
Shane Carwin will take his place on June 11.
Do you think the fight will be as interesting with Carwin in instead of Lesnar?
