Within the week! That’s when the Playstation Network is prepared to be back online. We were all a little surprised (and miffed) on Sunday when we thought that PSN services would be resumed but it definitely didn’t go back to its old self.
Apparently Japan is back online and the UK is set to be online soon.
Why did this all happen?
The company suffered a massive security breach – a hack. The hacker stole approx. 77 million users’ credit card information.
Sony Updated users in this statement:
“Following a criminal cyber-attack on the company’s data centre located in San Diego, California, Sony Network Entertainment International quickly turned off the PSN and Qriocity services, engaged multiple expert information security firms over the course of several days and conducted an extensive audit of the system.
Since then, the company has implemented a variety of new security measures to provide greater protection of personal information. SNEI and its third-party experts have conducted extensive tests to verify the security strength of the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.”
For all the trouble – Sony is giving each user 30 free days of PlayStation Plus Premium services as well as some free downloadable content for all the trouble.

YOu kno, i agree with you. PS3 already gets all map packs and other add ons for games after game consoles such as the xbox 360. I along iwht most of the people i know dont want 30 days of PSN plus becuase we wont use it!! Im a dedicated PS3 user and it pisses me off to watch xbox 360 users playing things such as the new black ops map pack without me even able to get online!!!

get over it this is the first generation of sony products that has an online worth a damn... and it's free not $60 a year... the xbox live users pay to get the month head start on map packs you pay $0 so get over it... the original xbox had issues online too and xbox live had a 13 day shutdown before which they gave a month free of live... at least you do not HAVE TO pay to play online with sony

Why have they only given out free PS+, I joined the free 1 month Lovefilm trial and around the time I was meant to cancel the PSN goes down, now I have to fork out for a month of this which i didn't really want to do. I can not cancel this service as I dont have a computer nor can I watch/download or order anything from them, are we going to be compensated for this loss of service?

I think everyone whos complaining should shut the crap up. Sony's network will be more advanced than ever. These hackers used state of the art equipment and left very little trace so they were prolly close to the best out there. I think they could of done it to anybody. They did not steal 77 million users’ credit card information LOL what is this irresponsible "journalism" (if we can call it that.) 77m is the total amount of registered users. Out of those, 2.2 million had credit card information stored. This information was encrypted and so far there's supposedly no evidence that anyone lost credit due to this intrusion. I have spent thousands on their products and and have yet to resolve a single issue with their products or customer service in a manner that I would consider to be adequate. Best part of this for me is that Sony provides it's Canadian customers with US information regarding how to go about protecting our credit. ppl info from insider at Sony they cant switch psn back on because they have not found 1 scrap of evidence linkin any1 to the hack so if they do switch on psn there's a possibility it could happen again press conference to commence in next day or two to say psn will resume next week but it could be months just to keep you hanging on if i was you i wouldn't wait any more and go to xbox360 psn could be down for months.

I'm not complaining and i don't blame Sony. It's not their fault that some hackers broke the law and f-ed their network up. I mean no matter how tight your security, there's always someone smart enough out there to get in. The only pieces of sh-- i blame are the f-ing hackers themselves. As for Sony, I think they've handled the crisis very well except for one small thing, i wish they'd give an actual date when we'll get the psn completely back (store and all), so everyone would quit all the rumors and speculation. I really would like to download some GAMES! lol, i know, I know, I'll have to be patient, like we all will. Anyway, one more thing. People, please stop saying that you'd be willing to pay a monthly fee for psn. There's no reason they should charge us like Xbox does. It's just greed if they charge us. It doesn't cost that much to run a network. Do we pay for gmail? Do we pay for facebook? etc...those are larger networks than psn or xbox and they are free, so quit saying you want to pay and ruin it for the rest of us who are very grateful to Sony that they respect their customers enough to offer them free online functionality! It's obvious a few of the bloggers are Playstation employees telling us to suck it up. Fact is, when you by a TV, you expect to be watching a program. When you buy a new car, you expect it to start when you turn the key. I bought a PS3 and I expect it to do what was advertised and it doesn't. For those of you who feel bad for the Playstation people, don't. While you're waiting for service to come back they're driving their Porsche's around Malibu. For a company that prides itself on quality they certainly left everyone in the dark on this situation as we had to see the news on CNN to find out that our information may have been stolen. As for hackers, they need to spend a few decades in the slammer to make them wise up and find something constructive to do with their time other than living their lives as thieves. Oh, and for many of the rest of you, I suggest you pay a little more attention in your English class!

You guys a crazy nutbags. The PS3 has much more to offer than just online services. Granted, they are great, but watch a movie or something. Or even better, load a DVD of some fitness program and lose about 10 pounds of the fat you've gained sitting online all day. I want to play online as much as everyone else, but I also have a real life; not some made up fantasy where I can ge shot ten times before I die. Take up jogging or biking, or take your kids to the park (if you have any)! If you don't, go to your local Boy's and Girls Club and spend some time with them. You guys need to realize that the world does not revolve around PSN! Get a life and Live IT!!!!

sony is just gonna keep moving the dates back . last week they said it would be up within a week. that week is up. now they say it will be this week. o and guess what they just found an anonymous server that the hackers created. so if their just now looking through their servers its gonna be a long time! o and this has lasted longer than the xbox live outage. and all ive been playing lately is xbox live because its on! the only thing that is keeping me on ps3 is a game called MAG thats it! the only good exclusive for ps3!

Sony got their asses kicked, and their dicks chopped, that's y they r buying time by changing story and not updating and give exact date as to when they will bring back psn. on Tuesday may 3rd, then within the week, then will be within the month and so forth they probadly can't even log into the psn sytem them self. And r creating a new psn new servers, but are so dumb that even they don't know how long before new psn comes back on, I honestly think, ps3 is dead, now sony has to rush and and bring out ps4, but by then playsstation will be long forgotten, osama bin laden and ps3 are dead, people don't believe but that's the truth.

... I really don't see why everyone is complaining. I mean yes, it does suck that the PSN is down, however, its not like you CAN'T play the games you have offline. I mean my netflix is down because of it, and yes, while it being frustrating and annoying - Sony is beefing up its security and trying to make the PSN safer and better... if that takes time - then it takes time. They would have to do it eventually anyways in order to stay the most advanced. So quit bitching about it all the time. Just be PATIENT - they are working on it and also giving away free downloadable content. Yes, its an inconvience but think of all that its cost their company already...as loyal PS users, we should understand this sucks for them too. Its not THEIR fault they got hacked, instead why isn't anyone mad at the people who hacked the PSN? it IS, in the end, their fault.

PLAYSTATION IS BETTER. yes online is free, but the 3 cost more than 360(new). but i hate that sony is not being honest. online is not going to be better, the network security is. not allcontent is going to be available for download of our choice. XBOX,PS3 theres only 2 major difrences 1.the controlers. xbox controlers ar bulkier but its basicly a ps1,2,or3 controler with the D-pad and anologe stick switched but you can get the xbox controllers for PS3 at toysRus,gamestop,and bestbuy. 2.the internet is free for ps3 but not for xbox. So if you only have an xbox for the controler but like PS3 then buy a ps3 but if u want to pay for XBOX then fine but everyone QUIT BEING FAN BOYS NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOUR CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!! Haha Xbox360 has never had this problem and never will because it is 100% better than PS3, so what I pay $60 for a whole year of playing, more than worth it, we have way better online services, are servers are way better, security is way better we get all updates, map packs, addons way before ps3 even here about it. Get a fucking job and join the rest of the nation on a way better system. Only thing PS3 has is a web browser which is a fucking joke btw, and you don't have to pay. The reason you don't have to pay because Sony knows the only way they can even begin to compete is if they give their shit away for free. You also don't see professional gamers playing on PS3's or professional tournaments played on PS3 because they are unreliable pieces of shit. and the xbox360 experience takes more skill, because we play with professionals you play with 10 year olds who scream in every lobby you join. so gtfo and join us, we have cookies fucking bums

my xbox360 is standing around the tv in my livingroom , my ps3 is standing around my fullhdmonitor in my pcroom,im waiting since days to be able to play my ps3games, and im wondering , why am i not going to my livingroom , why am i not turning the xbox360 again on , even the servers of xboxlive are all free for me, and i can enter all the time i want without paying for it , just like my psn , something lets me sit at my pc , and telling me , dont bother dude, its only a crapxbox360 , its a fakeconsole with a fakecontroller , leave it and wait til the orginal will work again , say psn will come back online,then the fun will continue..... why do i have all the days thru this feeling , why is the *100% best console xbox360* not making me have fun in red dead redemption , in tekken 6 , in gta5 , in burnout revange and many other games i bought once for my xbox360 with the hope , it will get better. It never got better , i was thinking after i had all topgames on my xbox360 , im maybe to old for games , games are no fun anymore like once, and suddenly my wife came up with ps3 , and i started playing and buying all the topgames again , like the not so good looking red dead redemption for my ps3 and tekken 6 and gta5 , and i realized , it must be all about the controll in game and not about the grafic only , the ps3c controller did really give me back the feeling of i like games , the psn made me all happy eachday for a few hours , when shooting or racing , and the ps3 never made me destroy a game , coz throwing it against the wall , coz of lack of controll in game , in xbox360 online i was eyewithness in tekken 6 of a miracle you never would think of, i was right infront of my opponent and i did hit the lefthandattackbutton , which is fastest since tekken exists, i saw twice like my lefthandattack was to slow vs a rightleghitbutton. I dont know such a tekkengame , and if this is tekken i wouldent play tekken never in my life, coz it would be sucky , a hand is always faster as a leg , everywhere , and in any fightinggame , but not on xbox360controller , inthere weird things do happen which a user cant explain. In ps3 crap and weird stuff never does happen,thatswhy is to me my xbox360 a 50% console, for lill kids. The ps3 console is for serious gamers with passion to the game. ...and i got passion to games.... ...so i need ps3....very logical!

i do'n beive anything sony says anymore and don't expect psn to be online this week. Its just bull they are trying to buy time because they don't have any idea when the network will be able to be back online. as for the playstation plus deal, thats worthless, if i wanted that crap i would have bought it. If thats the case i want my money back for the add-ons i have already bought . Its only fair to get my money back for add-ons i have paid for and now when the psn gets on people will get the add-ons i bought for free.

GET THE FACTS PLEASE! Xbox is not better than ps3. Plain and simple, if you are a ps3 person that's cool and xbox360 is a respectable system. I have both and I like the ps3 slightly better. If you like ps3 you are probably not gay and you probably aren't gay if you like xbox360. Simple as that, if one system was clearly better than another, then the lesser system won't be on sale for long. It is a matter of preference, the xbox has more sales, more people and better ratings. The xbox has more sales due to the fact that they are slightly easier to break, overheat or red ring. Also the 360 came out 1 year earlier than the ps3. The ps3 has numbers on it's side, and sole stats of the speed, practicality, ram, hard drive, connectivity and GPU (graphics processing unit). The hardware in the ps3 is superior, however it does have the yellow light of death (less common) greater initial cost (compared to the 360 pro) however the difference is made up by the built in wifi. I AM BEING AS FAIR AS I CAN. Yes, the PSN server has been hacked, but the hacker could probably have hacked into xbox live. This is not a failure on Sony, this is a win on the hacker. Having paid live still costs money and that hoes into, more maintenance, more stuff and the CEO's pocket. Let us not forget the amount of money between the working man and the CEO is quickly increasing. This is a con to our western, capitalism based system. FOR THOSE OF YOU ATTACKING EACHOTHER PLEASE READ THE ABOVE.

seriously? anyone who is saying get a life, go do something for 2 weeks doesn't realize that people enjoy online play more than the story i guarantee more people are prestige 15, than people who have actually played the story all the way through. Thats not to say there all fat losers with nothing else to do. I am a casual gamer and i am really upset that i cant play black ops online, and that i cant even use netflix anymore. They also shouldn't have said it would be fixed sooner than later if they didn't actually know what was wrong. And the month of PSN + is a good deal but i personally have no use for it, and like many of you said the "gifts" we receive may not be anything worth while but i will give it to sony that they are trying. But you would think that a company so big, with such a huge amount of money would be able to stop a hack of this magnitude. Im not sure i will add my credit card to my account anymore. this was one big fuck up, and i hope we all get to play soon, or there might be a riot in the streets outside of Sony Co. o_O

Surely that alone makes it worth doing? 4 Protection against HIV and AIDS. (It is very important here to say that the risk is still far too high and that condoms and safe sex must be used - this applies also to preventing cancer of the cervix in women who have several partners.) A BBC television programme in November 2000 showed two Ugandan tribes across the valley from one another. One practised circumcision and had very little AIDS, whereas, it was common in the other tribe, who then also started circumcising. This programme showed how the infection thrived in the lining of the foreskin, making it much easier to pass on. 5 As with HIV, so some protection exists against other sexually transmitted infections. Accordingly, if a condom splits or comes off, there is some protection for the couple. I'm tired of all you idiots saying that the PSN is free and you have to pay for XBOX. First of all you pay $100.00 more for the PS3 than the XBOX so right there is approximately 2 years of XBOX Live. Second PSN sucks A** they have the worst lag of any system (you get what you pay for) Third XBOX Live is way better than PSN lags less and they they give you more stuff to edit your profiles with. Fourth all COD games (Activision) are made to be 100% compatable with XBOX not PS3 and you gey downloadable content 30 days sooner. Fifth 80% of the people that have any thing to do with the COD franchise have a XBOX account not a PS3. I have both systems in my home I can tell you without a doubt that XBOX's internet connection is far superior than PS3's. You dumb brits need to do your homework before typing your comments. Sony will never be able to have their online system working as good as XBOX Live. If you don't believe me go rent an XBOX for yourself and you will see the difference you dumb noobs.

I used to love my playstation 3, but now that it has been out for 4 weeks it just makes everyone pissed off. Sunday (the first of may) they wrote on their blog it will be up within a week and it is still not up. when it went down they said within 3 days. They desperately need to get back online or they will just keep losing more and more costumers. They should give everybody a $20 playstation points card. Hopefully it will be up by tomorrow. I will probably be a lot worse than i was at black ops and that just pisses me off. I've been playing solo zombies and got to level 49. I currently believe that zombies is not nearly as fun as it used to be and that just lowers my expectations of the Playstation 3.

We come with good news. Today, Sunday May 14th, we have recieved a final testimonial allowing us to inform you PSN will be back up in the following week! This coming Monday, start looking for a update in the update section of your PS3, because between Monday through Friday this following week, PSN will be back up. It could be on Friday or Monday or any other day, but at least we can now inform you of our narrowed down release date. I am also sorry nobody official was here to help you with your comments, but I will not be that person. A newer post will be posted with the exact date following the exact time, though we expect the time will be at U.S. eastern midnight. When PSN comes back you will be prompted to download an update for security as only the update may protect you and give you the new PSN. The update could take a couple hours though, as it needs to sinc with every PSN compatible game or program along with the ability to do other stuff.

Ok look my ps3 disk drive broke, it wouldn't let me put disks in it so I took it to the shop today and it has to stay there overnight and 2moro it will be fixed, I can't tell if psn is back on here in Australia but my ps3 has been broken for over a month, yes I was a lonely little b@st@rd and sat in my room all day, no I'm not fat, I'm 15 years old and only weigh 50kg's. I miss my ps3. Since it broke I've had a heartache ever since. I'm extremely sad and depressed, I have been single for 6-7 years and it's sad yes I know. Throughout those years I got a ps3 for my 14th birthday and I almost died of happiness. Ok look I'll admit, I suck at black ops online, but zombies, I pwn lol. I have been playing zombies on my iPhone for a few weeks. I made it to round 61 solo. It was bloody hard, I miss psn, I had ps I miss my ps3, but most of all, I had a girlfriend from kindergarten all the way through to year 5. Most of all, I miss my girlfriend. My heart has a MASSIVE hole in it. Nothing will fix that. But I cannot wait to pick my ps3 up 2moro. I don't know if psn is back up in Australia but I will find out 2moro. You guys if psn is down you just need to walk outside and get fresh air. Sony is working there a$$'s off to fix psn. The free ps and free downloads is EXTREMELY generous of them. This message is not revelant with Sony. All GameWizard users are being given one month of full PlayStation3 access on the GameWizard server. In case you didnt now what this is. GameWizard is an alternate PSN by a third party orginization in partneship with sony. GameWizard is used in only a few games like Call of Duty World at War. It is used to host servers so instead of connecting to PSN you connect to GWservice. To get GWservice on your PS3 go to GameWizardService.com and order a GWservice USB used to host. No internet connection needed.

To answer a few questions and comments. 1:I am sorry to hear you switch to Xbox consol as your gaming device and apologize for your disatisfaction. 2: PSN store will be back up on Wednesday as final preps for the new store are finalized. 3: I had the same problem, because your areas PSN isn't fully restored and you have a minimal connection. If this isn't a DSN problem than you need to reboot the system and use a new password as your replacement code.
