Nissan Leaf Is Awesome

By Mark Lorenz on April 21st, 2011

For years talk has circulated about electric cars; how they’ll change the balance of the world, make it less likely that the rivers of oceans and garbage will choke out life, and kill all of us.

But for years, electric cars were not a reality. Either because major corporate interests didn’t want them to be, or because the technology wasn’t there. Not anymore. Now with the advent of Coda, the Volt, and the Leaf (ed: green technology is a four-letter word), the markets will be flooded with all kinds of innovative tech. And thankfully it’ll be good innovative tech – the Leaf has now won the 2011 World Car Of The Year award at the New York International Auto Show – beating out the Audi A8 and the BMW 5 series. It’s the first electric vehicle to win the award – which means the car your uncle built out of the kitchen faucet and rickety batteries is probably never going to get off the ground. And everybody hates the Tesla Roadster.

The jurors LOVED the Leaf.

It has a range of over 100 miles on a full charge (claims Nissan), takes around 8 hours to recharge using 220-240V power supply and produces zero tailpipe emissions. Its low center of gravity produced sharp turn-in with almost no body roll and no understeer. The good news? It feels just like a normal car, only quieter.

After the electricity runs out, it runs on gas. Sign me up.

Uh... the Nissan Leaf does NOT run on gas after the electricity runs out. It's all-electric. No gas tank, no fuel support. Battery goes dead, car goes dead, as many testers learned after only 30-40 miles when the battery life turned out to be drastically less than claims. Also might want to check the linked URL. Nissan's web site is http://www.nissanusa.com/ . Nissan.com is another company who makes it quire clear they're not affiliated and have been sued by the car manufacturer.

2011 Nissn Leaf Video – Watch an in-depth introductory video of the Totally NEW Nissan Leaf battery electric vehicle. This is a Plug-In battery car with a 100 mile range. The Leaf is the first mass marketed electric car. Paul Hossen the Leaf product planner will show and explain what the Leaf is all about. It has no gas tank, radiator, coolant, engine oil, exhaust pipe, muffler, spark plugs, fuel injection system, smog control devices, transmission etc. Battery electric cars are very simple and efficient. It takes about $1.50 to $2.50 of electricity to fully charge the battery giving a 100 mile range. In a gasoline powered compact sedan averaging 30 miles per gallon, $2.00 will buy you about 25 miles range.Watch the video here http://leafcharging.com/uncategorized/2011-nissan-leaf-battery-electric-car-in-depth-vehicle-introduction-video I think you are mistaken on the gas.

"Battery goes dead, car goes dead, as many testers learned after only 30-40 miles when the battery life turned out to be drastically less than claims." Umm... No... Nobody has run the car dead after 30 or 40 miles. Not on a full charge at least. Most people get about 80 miles per charge although the car was rated at 71 miles.
