Will Ferrell is a yelling American treasure. A man who enjoys stealing scenes and the hearts of everyone who enjoys comedy – provided his movies aren’t built on paper-thin plots or exercises in dramedies.
Now he’s branching out into Spanish language cinema, an area not a lot of American actors don’t get into – because they’re not the creator of Gary Sanchez productions, the production company founded by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell. Gary Sanchez has had an unnamed production starring Will Ferrell as a Spanish rancher for some time now, and if the trailer is any indication of the movie’s quality, I will see it three times.
Because really, there aren’t enough white man playing the roles of foreigners in comedies. That went out with Charlie Chan – but maybe Will Ferrell is charming enough that he can pull it off without inciting the rage of Latino organizations specifically designed to have rage about any negative portrayals. Maybe we won’t have to hear an endless litany of complaints – making Will Ferrell the weird modern day equivalent of Peter Sellers.
Will they be able to pull it off with flying colors? From the looks of it, yes. Flying colors and pistolas.
