Thought America’s infatuation with children’s movies and bad comedy would end this weekend? You thought wrong. We will always have time for nutshots and computer-generated animals.
Russell Brand must be at the top of the world right now. Somehow, the powers that be have managed to schedule two of his movies to be running concurrently during the same weekend – and they’ve wound up at number 1 and number 2 respectively. Despite looking like a pile of condensed cinematic attrition, Hop landed at number one for the second week in a row, earning 20 million – followed by Arthur, which managed to rank up 14 million. Despite Russell Brand being in two movies that are in the top ten this week, studios may be disappointed that their marks haven’t been hit – they were projected both to open much higher. And the money spent on Arthur’s ever-present ad campaigns might’ve actually rivaled the billionaire’s projected fortune. Coming in third was Hanna, earning 12 million, and the other big-name movie this week, Your Highness, opened weakly in fifth place.
That’s right, a period stoner film didn’t play well to Middle America. How surprising. They’d rather watch a bunny poop out candy…
…pretty much a summation of the last few years.
